The Orange City Arts Council is a community organization promoting live entertainment, education and the arts in northwest Iowa since 1977. From its first sponsored performances right up to today, the Orange City Arts Council has been an active force organizing and promoting cultural events that bring together international performers, local talent, and community members to enrich the lives and people of northwest Iowa.
OC Arts sponsors visiting performances by artists such as Boston Brass, the Cactus Blossoms, the Shattered Glass Ensemble and the Salem Mass Choir, and jazz ensemble Open Hands, to name a few.
Orange City Arts Council Program Highlights
Onstage Orange City Free summer concert series in downtown Orange City’s Windmill Park. May-August. Music, entertainment, activities. Includes performances by the Orange City Area Community Band.
Summer Suites Special performances held in backyard gardens. Music, singing, storytelling. Treats for sale.
Arts of Central Street fair featuring artists, musicians, kids activities, workshops, food and more. Contests, prizes.
Schoolhouse Company Stage performances. Collaborative effort with local drama troupe.
Missoula Children’s Theatre Every other year performance event putting professional actors and local children together onstage.
Orange City Arts Artist in Schools Residency
One of the oldest projects of the Orange City Arts Council. This program places professional artists in public schools, where they share their art and experiences with students. Over 100 residents have taken part.
Past activities of the Orange City Arts Council
The Orange City Arts Council manages a dynamic program that never disappoints. Some events are one of a kind, others are staples that keep coming back every year. Here are some of the past initiatives of OC Arts:
Art Demonstrations Local artists demonstrate their skills for with the community.
Arts at Noon Artists in school residents share their experiences with community members over lunch.
Art Classes for Children Art classes taught by professional artists during the summer program and after school.
Dutch Folk Arts and Crafts Fair Traditional works on display and for sale during the Tulip Festival.
Art Burst Annual fine arts fair on Saturday of the Tulip Festival. (Later taken over by the Tulip Festival steering committee.)
Orange Rind Film Festival Documentary Film Festival and workshops.
MomuntuM A community dance experience.
