Discover Armenia

Armenia is one of the oldest countries in the world and the first to adopt Christianity as its state religion in 301 CE.  Often called the cradle of civilization, caves and other ancient sites contain evidence of human settlement dating back 90,000 years.

There are three Armenian sites inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage list. The Monasteries of Haghpat and Sanahin represent the height of Armenian medieval religious architecture and were important centers of learning from the 10th to 13th centuries. The Monastery of Geghard and the Upper Azat Valley preserves fine architecture in a setting of great natural beauty. The Cathedral and Churches of Echmiatsin and the Archaeological Site of Zvartnots illustrate the development of the influential Armenian church style.

Armenia is famous for wine and brandy. It has been said that Winston Churchill favored Georgian brandy even when British-Soviet relations were at their worst.

Ararat is the most famous Armenian label, producing cognac style brandy since 1887. It is widely available in Armenia and former Soviet bloc countries.
